Prue Morrison, the founder of Australian Pottery Supplies, stated that she wanted to connect with other entrepreneurs who have been through this period and can offer advise and support on which areas to focus on and what our next steps are.

Women aspiring to start their own businesses but unsure where to begin offered with a fantastic opportunity in Geelong. A free, intensive workshop is designed to turn their entrepreneurial dreams into reality.

The Accelerator for Enterprising Women hosted the AccelerateHER Workshop, a nationwide initiative funded by the Australian Government. This program aims to empower women aged 18 and over to pursue entrepreneurship and grow their small businesses.

Led by seasoned business leaders, the one-day session focuses on action, idea development, and problem-solving. One notable participant, Prue Morrison, founder of Australian Pottery Supplies—which sells ceramics and pottery equipment to some of Australia’s biggest studios, art spaces, schools, educational institutions, retirement villages, and building companies—shared her excitement about attending the workshop.

“Our business is growing quickly, and we are looking for ways to automate and systemize operations, gain advice on processes to implement, and develop strategies to maintain great customer service through this growth phase,” Morrison said. “I also want to connect with other entrepreneurs who have navigated similar phases and can offer advice and assistance on our next steps.”

Morrison emphasized the importance of such events for both business and personal growth. “As a single mother and someone who mainly works alone, it’s essential to connect with others, attend in-person events, and learn from other women,” she noted. “We all have experiences, both good and bad, that we can share to support each other’s businesses during this time when more women are starting and growing successful ventures.”

Participants completing the workshop with a clear business model to share with potential partners or investors, depending on their stage of development. They will also have a validation approach, including experiments and research, to test assumptions before investing money. Additional tools provided include financial modelling and a go-to-market strategy.
